5 Simple and Affordable Ways to Make Someone’s Birthday Feel Special
Everyone Deserves to Feel Special on Their Birthday
You don’t have to break the bank or go crazy to make someone feel special. There are so many little things you can do that might seem small, but will mean a lot to the person celebrating. So, if you’re on a budget but still want to show your love, then you're in the right place. The following ideas will make your loved one feel cherished because every time they walk past what you gave them, they will be reminded of you, your effort, and your love for them. Each item also makes a great photo op that your person can post on their Instagram or Facebook.
#1 Balloons
Buy them balloons from the dollar store. They don’t have to be balloons that say “happy birthday.” They can be giant number balloons like a “2” and a “5” if your bestie is turning 25. They can be pretty flower balloons, or stars, or smiley faces, or hearts. You could even buy a mini balloon on a stick that lasts for years. Or you could buy them the number of balloons that their new age is. For example, when I turned 23, my mom gave me 23 balloons! If you buy helium balloons, be sure to purchase a balloon weight as well. I recommend tying your balloons in a slip knot around a back seat headrest in your car to prevent them from floating away when opening car doors.
#2 Flowers
Make them a bouquet. My go-to store is Meijer. They have lots of premade bouquets, but I like their flower cart that has lots of small, different flowers on it. Pick 2 to 3 flowers. Think about their favorite flowers and favorite colors. For example, if they like pink, try buying some pink roses with white baby’s breath and maybe red carnations. Baby’s breath is typically used in bouquets as a nice accent, so it’s a good flower to grab for any bouquet to make it look pretty. When you get the flowers home, cut them shorter so that they stand in a vase nicely, and don’t forget to add the plant sugar food to the water if your flowers came with one.
#3 Write a Card + Stickers
Write them a nice card. You can grab one at the store, grocery store, or a cute one on Etsy. Use a nice pen to write what you wish for them (happiness this day and whole year, lots of love, yummy food, and a great day), and add stickers! Think about things they like. Maybe they have a pet cat or dog. Get some animal stickers. Maybe they love coffee, or flowers, or Stitch, or the Minions. The possibilities are endless.
#4 Bake or Buy a Birthday Dessert
Bake or buy them a sweet treat. Everyone deserves a sweet treat on their birthday. Whether that means a birthday cake, pie, cake pops, cupcakes, or cookies. Place an order at your local grocery store, favorite bakery, or grab some cake mix and make it yourself. Put their name on it if possible, and maybe their age if it’s a big birthday like 10, 16, or 21, etc. Don’t forget to grab some birthday candles!
#5 DoorDash Dinner, Cook It, or Go Out
Get them dinner so that they don’t have to cook or buy it. Take them to their favorite restaurant and get dressed up, or send them their favorite meal via DoorDash and get it delivered to their house if they’re staying in, or cook them a nice comfort meal if you live in the same house.
